The hosts were charming and could not do enough. The location was quite rurual in spite of overlooking a busy town. The evening meal was superb and compared very well in price and content with other gourmet meals we have had in hotels.
The staff were all very helpful. We appreciated the antique furniture in the room and the views from the room.
Nice new fine sauna, friendly serviceminded staff, pittoresque romantic french interior. Welltasting dinner.
The breakfast was too French for me who want to have a large continental selection of the breakfast. The bed was a littlle bit hard, and the room could have been warmer.
Very friendly staff who looked fter us very well
Warm welcome, very friendly staff. the restaurant and quality of food was exceptionally good and it was nice to end the evening with a coffee on the terrace overlooking Thionville.
Lovely room, and elegant decoration. Dinner was very good value, and served in a relaxed atmosphere. As the hotel is within about 10 miles of Luxembourg, and within 3 or 4 miles of the main route between Calais and Alsace / Switzerland (and avoiding the French Toll motorways) this is an ideal stopover.
Nice restaurant, serving excellent food prepared by the owner chef. Nice views across Thionville. Quiet room.
We booked a superior room, but the state of the decor and furnishings was very tired and was less than superior. There was no elbow room in the shower as it was over a very narrow bath, with a plastic shower curtain that stuck to you due to lack of space! There were two sinks in the bathroom, but space was so limited two people would have had a job using them at the same time! No mirror in the bedroom - the only mirror was in the bathroom over the sinks. No fan in the room, as the website suggested. Upon arrival, the aroma of the room was less than "fresh" Did not feel this room warrented the "superior" price tag! Breakfast was of 2* quality.
The hotel is beautiful with old world charm - not found in today's chain hotels. The owners are wonderful and spend time talking with their guests. Jean Pascal is a fantastic chef, so be sure to dine at the hotel.
The hotel staff succeeds in creating immediately good relationships.
Charming hotel in pleasant grounds but the big attraction is the restaurant.
Large rooms, dated decor [quite distinctive], friendly staff
pleasant atmosphere, quiet, easy parking
a convenient pleasant hotel in a quiet neighbourhood, near the E25 France - Lux - Belgium - Netherlands. Nice view over city, pleasant dining room (other good restaurant within 100 m).
Owner was very welcoming and the facility was very nice. Room was large, with a nice bed, free wifi and a large bathroom. Up in the hills above Thionville was also nice.
We ate in the "gourmet" restaurant the first evening and the food was terrible. Read many reviews boasting of fine food, but it was not evident that night. The porcelet I had was at best medium rare and closer to rare. I cannot imagine a trained french cook serving almost raw pork. My wife ordered duck and it was badly over cooked. She had a cherry sauce which consisted of the same jus on my plate to which they added onions. Soggy peas and carrots to go with it. I've had better in poor english pubs. Having said this, the owners realized how bad the food was and, therefore, did not charge us for the meal. I suspect the regular chef had the night off and hired a schoolkid to cook that night. Other issue, one could not close toilet door in room while sitting on commode (neither for my wife nor I).
friendly atmosphere attentive staff good food excellent location for Maginot line good for wine tours
